(Grade 1 – 4)
Hands-on Physics is designed to provide an introduction for students in the elementary level grades. This program is intended to be the first step in developing the study of real scientific concepts and terminology in physics. Whether you are exploring laws of motion, sound waves, or light, physics is everywhere! Rolling, pushing, pulling, racing, zapping, squishing, and more! Physics is fun!
The program is excited to offer 6 experiments for young campers in June 2024. There are 3 experiments in each week. These simple physics experiments are perfectly fun physics for kids! This program will be covering essential knowledge, like that of units and notations, and several topics:
- Mechanics, which will include but may not be limited to kinematics, forces, energy, and momentum.
- Electromagnetism, covering charges, basic circuitry.
- Magnetism.
In each topic, there are 3 sections:
- The Observe It section helps students explore how to make good observations.
- The Think About It section provides questions for students to think about and use to make further observations.
- The Just for Fun section provides an additional activity.
Hands-on experiments are the way to go with our young scientists, explorers, and engineers. There are lots of fun!

Instructor: Richard Ding, Jacob Yu
Richard Ding is in the class of 2025 at Archbishop Mitty High School. Having taken the AP Physics C: Mechanics course, he has a thorough and rigorous understanding of the subject. Richard has served as a TA for many years, both at Enlighten and Mitty, where he has accumulated dozens of hours of valuable teaching experience.
Jacob Yu is in the class of 2025 at Leland High School. He has taken the AP Physics 1 course and has a thorough understanding of the subject. Additionally, he has accumulated several years of experience as a teacher’s assistant in Enlighten Summer Camps, where he has sharpened his skills in communication and instruction.
