Course Description:

Numerous studies over the past 40 years show that chess improves standardized test scores in reading and math, improves memory, develops logical thinking, promotes imagination and creativity and teaches independence. But most important of all, kids have fun! The chess class teaches the game of kings in a unique, fun and engaging way. Kids will learn everything from basic piece movement to advanced tactics, with lessons tailored to suit students of all skill levels.

The chess class for 2020 Fall semester will be distance-learning over Zoom. We offering up to 4 class options: Absolute Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and we use Zoom and Zoom-Breakout to optimize learning groups with a ratio of 10:1. Also, we have partnered with www.Chesskid.com to provide every registered student with a $49 value 1-Year gold membership account where students have 24/7 access to unlimited games, extra lessons, puzzles, and serves as a platform for students to play each other and compete in weekly tournaments.

Instructor: Bay Area Chess

Bay Area Chess combines fun and learning while promoting team spirit and an academic edge! Our chess program will cover the very basics for new students to the game and we can challenge more experienced players with more advanced concepts. Students will have the opportunity to learn the moves of the pieces, opening strategy, tactics, checkmates and endgame play with our top professional coaches. Students will also learn valuable life skills through chess, such as winning and losing with grace, sportsmanship, planning ahead and team spirit.
